Coolie Movie Review

Coolie, my first-ever early morning show experience. They had done massive promotions and built a lot of hype for this film. I had already gone for Leo earlier and got royally disappointed there, so I went in with much lower expectations this time.

Mild Spoilers Ahead…

The first half moved extremely slowly. At interval, I thought something big was going to happen, but nope, nothing there either. The second half was at least watchable enough to keep me awake.

A guy who was beaten to death suddenly coming back alive… a boy who doesn’t even remember the face of the man who killed his father… a villain who doesn’t know who is around him… a cameo character who just chills in a room while the hero fights alone, only showing up when the hero calls… a hero who gets stabbed in the back with an axe and then, in the climax, strolls into the desert to casually meet Aamir Khan , what is this writing, yaar???

So many big actors, good production values, superb music, all wasted because of a lifeless screenplay. Rajini sir is the only one holding the film together, and Shobin’s character is beautifully written. The rest? Pure waste!

Anirudh’s music is good, but the scenes don’t match the energy. You can’t just shout “Arangam Athirattume…” and expect it to work, the audience also needs to feel that rush.

Also, at the start, they show drinking alcohol as a bad thing, but later they project it like some stylish act. Whoever drinks, whenever they drink, drinking is wrong, full stop.

Overall, a little money gone, and half my morning sleep gone too.
